Find your English class

Welcome to Learning English in Yorkshire and the Humber - LEYH!

On this website you can find information about English language classes in your area and across the Yorkshire and Humber region.

You can find out which classes are free, where they are held, what level they are and whether childcare is available.

We hope the website will be useful to learners, providers and support staff working with migrants in many different organisations.

Here you will find some ESOL reading books about places in Yorkshire & Humber.  Each reading book is available at two levels: Entry 1 and Entry 2/3.  Our reading books are made by the MESH team and refugee/asylum seeker participants on our Exploring & Belonging course.

You can read about three places in Hull: Spring Bank, Welcome House and Pearson Park

Here you will find information and advice for refugees, asylum seekers and others interested in going to University.

Follow this link to find out about how to apply to university, how to get funding support, and what English qualifications you need.  Also, you will find lots of links to other resources here, including information about some Universities that can help ESOL learners and adults to get on to their courses.

Here you will find information about volunteering, for example links to organisations that will help you to find a volunteering placement, language practice and key words around volunteering and an overview of what volunteering is.

Information on going to English classes for BN(O)s – Although generally BN(O) visa holders cannot access free English classes or other courses funded through the Adult Education Budget (AEB) for the first three years of their residence in the UK, many local authorities in Yorkshire and Humber are allowing Hong Kongers to join English classes run by their adult education teams. If you are a Hong Konger living in Doncaster, Kirklees, Leeds, North Yorkshire, Rotherham, Sheffield, York or Wakefield you can join AEB funded classes for free. This means that you can join most English classes at Colleges and Adult Education Centres in these areas for free.

Also, there are many other kinds of English classes open to Hong Kongers which are available in the community sector. To locate these classes, search for classes near to you using the postcode search and then contact specific groups to find out if Hong Kongers can join.

West Yorkshire Police have produced a Hate Crime Awareness Form in traditional Chinese. There is also a third party reporting service for Hong Kongers and other East and South East Asian Communities – On your side
